these independent newspapers have become quite a pain. we all used to look forward to the akhbaar wala bringing the voice of freedom to our home. we still fight over who gets to read the paper first but it's fun no more! all these papers talk about these days is what's wrong with the country, politics and society. anyone remotely related to religion or the current ruling establishment (whoever that might be) is branded a fundo and corrupt respectively.
the earthquake relief effort has seen an amazing uprising amongst the john does of pakistan. why not focus on their efforts and obstacles rather than focusing on what the ruling party is doing wrong? the 10% wrong far over-rides the 90% right in their eyes. it's become a status quo these days to be an anti-establishment member of society. i don't see any benefit in spreading such pessimistic views around to the world. yes, we need to be realistic and bring our mistakes to the fore-front but there are ways to do that. you bring these things out in the open, get the public to understand what's happening but at the same time also appreciate all the other smaller things that are being done in the right way. no one needs to stoop to the level of yellow journalism!
and then everyone complains we don't have any freedom of speech. know why we have this perception? it's because all anyone does in the name of 'freedom' is sit back in his/her air-conditioned office/home and complain about what's wrong in the society. if you want to help the country out, move your lazy ass and join some effort to improve society rather than bringing issues to the fore-front just for the sake of some dining room chatter!
